Import an Existing Address
This document explains how to import your existing blockchain address into the Spell system to create a self-custody collection card.
The import feature allows you to bring a blockchain address you already generated in another wallet (like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, etc.) into the Spell Wallet. This lets you create a self-custody collection card based on that address.
After importing, you can conveniently use this address to receive payments within Spell, while still retaining full ownership of your assets through your original wallet tool.
Note: The information you import only needs to include the public key address. There is no need to include sensitive information like private keys or mnemonic phrases.
Key Concepts
- You maintain full control of your assets: The import process only involves your public key (address) information. Your private keys and mnemonic phrases will never be transmitted to or accessed by the Spell system. You remain completely responsible for managing your asset’s security in your original wallet.
- A self-custody card is created: The collection card created through this process is a self-custody address. You are responsible for all transactions initiated from this address.
- Purpose: This feature is for users who want to consolidate multiple collection addresses or enjoy Spell’s convenient collection experience while keeping full control of their assets.
Step-by-Step Guide
To create a collection card from an existing wallet address, follow these steps:
- Go to the wallet management interface and click the Add Card button, then select Import Existing Address.
- Fill in the information:
- Alias: Set an easy-to-recognize name for this card (e.g., “Website A Payments”).
- Blockchain: Select the blockchain network for this card (e.g., Ethereum, BNB Chain). Note that this cannot be changed after you set it.
- Currency: Choose the cryptocurrency you want to receive with this card (e.g., ETH, BNB). A single card can support multiple tokens on the same network.
- Address: Paste your wallet address. Double-check to make sure the address is accurate.
- Complete the import: After confirming the information is correct, submit the form. Once the system validates the address, a new self-custody collection card will be successfully created and ready to use.
Important Notes
- Address Validity: Make sure the imported address is in the correct format and is compatible with the selected blockchain network, or you won’t be able to receive transfers.
- Address Ownership: You can only import addresses for which you hold the private key. Importing someone else’s address may prevent you from using any assets you receive.
- Security Reminder: Spell will never ask for your private key or mnemonic phrase under any circumstances. Always keep your private key information safe and never share it with any person or platform.
- Duplicate Imports: You cannot import an address if the combination of blockchain, address, and currency already exists on an active card.
